DA42 GUARDIAN made East Asia to Austria in one day

Within sensational 14 hours a two-man crew from Diamond Airborne Sensing (DAS) on a 4-seater Diamond MPP managed a distance of 2000 NM under bad weather conditions

The GUARDIAN departed in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) and flew with two stops in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Odessa (Ukraine) to Austria. Despite headwind with an average of 15 knots and under different flight conditions (dessert: + 104 °F; only 6 hours later thunderstorm: - 80 °F @ FL 170) the pilot accomplished the ferry flight within just one day.

“During the whole flight the GUARDIANs performance was incredible, though we had to pass through various weather conditions. Especially under extreme situations the MPP’s perfect on-board equipment (Garmin G1000, storm scope, synthetic vision), which isn’t usual for an aircraft of this size, was a big help” said pilot Mathias Hutterer.

Markus Fischer (Sales Director DAS) who was the other crew member, after the flight: „When we passed the two seas (Caspian Sea, Black Sea) the engines worked perfectly well in 17,000ft without any problems. By flying through the thunderstorm the GUARDIAN revealed its performance - with the de-icing system on board and an avionics system that even much lightning couldn’t affect, we were able to continue our flight safely.”
